Railroads

Tessilbrenta Geotextile fabrics are commonly used between ballast and sub-ballast both in the construction of new railway lines and the renovation of old ones.

The most important thing in the construction of a railway line is to keep the tracks stability and ensure a correct geometry of the rails. Because of the continuous stresses endured, the foundations fine particles could be pumped up inside the ballast and could therefore end up to de-stabilize the whole structure and cause danger of derailment.

Tessilbrenta Geotextile guarantees the construction stability over many years by performing its main functions: separation, drainage, filtration, and reinforcement.

- As an separator material Tessilbrenta geotextiles maintain the thickness and structural cohesion of the railway line. Without separation in fact the ballast thickness could diminish and the aggregate material could channel itself inside the softer foundation layer, causing in such a way a loss in the load carrying capacity.

- As a filtering and draining media Tessilbrenta Geotextiles can keep under control the water and fine materials flow inside the ballast: as a matter of fact the water in the foundation ballast interface is subjected to stresses due to the wheels dynamic load, and this could cause the sub-grade fine particles inside the ballast to become inflated.

- As a reinforcement material, Tessilbrenat geotextiles absorb the traction strains on the ballast base.
